Because we love California and the West Coast - here are some of our favorite spots.

And it’s just the beginning.

Soule Park Golf Course, OJAI

Oh, Ojai the enchantress! We remember hearing about it in Beef, and it’s most definitely as charming as we’d been led to believe. With its organic farms, boutique hotels and produce markets, this small Ventura County town is like a wonderland where people go to recharge—a little piece of heaven northwest of Los Angeles that’s well worth a visit. Before or after golf, a stop at the Ojai Tortilla Company is a must, no matter how long the queue is. Just minutes from the city centre, Soule Park Golf Course is nestled at the foot of the imposing Topatopa Mountains. The fairly classic-style course is open from the tee and offers more obstacles the closer you get to the greens. The clubhouse is centrally located, and the restaurant terrace opens onto gorgeous views of the course.

Roosevelt Golf Course, LOS ANGELES

Roosevelt Golf Course is an institution. A hotspot (and the birthplace) of LA’s golf revolution, it’s a 9-hole course that offers some of the city’s best views and brings together fans of new golf brands like Metalwood Studio and Malbon Golf. The back-to-vintage, back-to-basics layout is made for walkers. Hilly and very challenging, it will definitely test even the most seasoned players’ skills and accuracy. There’s something truly unique about golfing in the heart of the California hills, just a stone’s throw from the Hollywood Sign. As a Los Angeles City Golf Course, it’s part of the city’s parks and recreation department just like Los Feliz, Rancho Park and Griffith Park (all great for celebrity sighting!) and makes golf more accessible by hosting events and initiatives like the Bunker Club project and keeping things budget friendly.

Pelican Hill Golf Club, NEWPORT BEACH

If you want to spoil yourself, head straight to Newport Beach. We opted for a twilight game (which has the added advantage of being more budget conscious) and weren’t disappointed. Pelican Hill Golf Club, which has seen over 25 years of majestic California sunsets, is an experience in itself. Choose between two impressive courses, Ocean North and Ocean South, which were both designed to blend seamlessly with the natural landscape along the Pacific Ocean. Ball markers, green repair tools and Pelican Hill tees are available at the driving range. We took everything home as souvenirs.

Green fee: US$340 to US$415 including cart

Oak Quarry Golf Club, RIVERSIDE

Oak Quarry gets its name from the over 100-year-old marble quarry it sits on. Surprisingly affordable, it lies between Los Angeles and Palm Springs, making it the perfect destination if you want to stay in the LA area but still feel like you’re in a completely different universe. The stark white rocks and cliffs are the ultimate backdrop for pics, and the ride to some holes at the top of the hill (including the driving range) will take your breath away. On the club’s signature 16th hole, your tee shot has to cross the quarry and land on a small peninsula-shaped green. And don’t forget to check out the views from the back tees, since the perspective is totally different.
