For its inaugural invitational on September 14, hiatus golf has teamed up with Studio72, an LA-based design firm steeped in golf culture.
After stanning Studio72’s work for the longest time, we finally decided to approach them about our first annual event this fall. We clicked with Connor Green right away, and Studio72 created a map for Golf Le Champêtre, our host for the 2024 hiatus invitational on September 14 (stay tuned–there are lots of surprises in store!).

Connor, tell us about Studio72. Where did it all begin?
Chris and I met back in 2019, where we were creatives at the global creative agency R/GA in Los Angeles. We both worked there for a time, before adventuring into new gigs at different agencies. Fast forward to the summer of 2023, where we had the idea to merge our love of golf with our passion for design to create a unique collection of golf-inspired artwork.
While we love getting our prints into the hands of those who appreciate them, we’re also growing what we call the studio side of S72 by taking on client work to build S72 into its own creative studio. It’s been amazing to see the golf brands reaching out to us, asking to work together and help their business with their visual creative needs. There is a lot going on behind the scenes at the moment that’ll soon be out in the world.
Are you golfers? Are you golfers before designers or designers before golfers?
We’re for sure golfers. Nowadays, we’re definitely more designers than golfers, but we still get out there when we can. I have been playing since I was 10 years old, and Chris started a few years ago, so we have a nice contrast of longevity and fresh perspective of the game.
What's your favourite thing about golf?
The uniqueness of every moment out on the course. No two shots are ever exactly same, making each one a new challenge to try and conquer. Design’s the same: not every shot you hit (or every piece you make) is going to be the perfect one. It’s the act of chasing perfection that keeps you wanting more because you know how great the payoff feels.
How would you describe the curated golfer?
In this new era of golf we’ve entered over the last couple years, we’ve watched individuals bring their personality to the course through their apparel and equipment. The curated golfer carefully chooses how they want their persona to be presented and even brings that course style into their everyday style, from the clothing brands they rep everyday to the art they hang on their walls. It’s been incredible to see how much the golf community has grown, and it certainly isn’t stopping anytime soon.
What are some of your favourite designs?
Our favorite pieces might change weekly, if not daily. And sometimes, a print we liked a month ago is something we don’t like at all anymore. The natural part of being a designer is seeing how previous work can be improved. That isn’t true all the time, though. Some of our favourite pieces include, Amen Corner, The Weekly Schedule, HM Masters and the TW First Majors Collection. We love working with typography by finding ways for typefaces to fit together and work cohesively. Those pieces do just that and have stood the short test of time so far in our minds.
